Betty Lamp
This is an authentic hand-forged replica of a Betty Lamp. The Betty Lamp is thought to be of German, Austrian or Hungarian origin. The lamp first came into use in Colonial America during the 18th century and was widely used until the end of the 19th century. These lamps used a cloth wick (rush) inserted into fish oil, whale fat or animal fat trimmings. The hook allowed the Betty Lamp to be hung from a lamp stand that was on a table or on a floor stand and also could be hung from the fireplace mantle or a shelf.
The name Betty Lamp was derived from the German word " besser" or "bette" meaning to make better. This lamp produced very good light for its time.
