Courting Candle
This very fine hand-forged courting candle was used during the 1800's.
In the 1800's when a suitor came calling , the father would decide how long he could stay. Handsome, hardworking, wealthy? raise the candle. Homely,lazy, poor? Lower the candle. When the flame burned down to the metal holder the date was over.
