Hinge Pintles
I hand forge several different pintles to be used with strap hinges and half H hinges. The drive pintle is the strongest and the one used in 18th century framing when a post was used in the construction of door openings. But it can also be used in todays modern framing. I also forge two other pintles that work well in modern framing the jamb pintle and the surface mount which is the easiest to install. Pin sizes for all pintles are 3/8in. for 12 to 18 inch strap hinges and 1/2in. 24 thru 30 inch strap hinges and 5/8 and 3/4 in. for larger hinges.
