Bread Oven Door
The hinged oven door was a major progression of the brick bake oven which came after the American War of Independence and corresponded with the introduction of manufactured iron. This meant the removable oven plug was no longer needed and a damper could be used in the oven for a more controlled heat when baking. It was one of several developments that began in England as the Industrial Revolution in the last half of the 18th century and was fostered here as one of many Early American industries after the political ties were broken with England. The birth of our iron and steel industries was under way .
