Here at Seven Pines Forge I handforge one of the great treasures
of colonial wrought iron the Suffolk thumblatch. The Suffolk
latch was common place during the 18th and 19th century. The
sheer simplicity and balance of design make it a most desirable
item to see and use. Originally made by English blacksmiths
and imported here , the American blacksmiths soon began producing
these latches . Geographic influence in the design of the Suffolk
latch offered many different cusps and handle designs that
often presisted for a century or more. I take great pride in
reproducing these latches by hand for your home.
